Football

Football is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each, primarily played on a rectangular field known as a pitch, with a goal at each end. The objective of the game is to score goals by propelling a ball into the opposing team’s net using any part of the body except the arms and hands, with the exception of the goalkeeper, who can use their hands within a designated area. The game is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, which are maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

Football is one of the most popular sports worldwide, known for its global competitions, including domestic leagues, international club tournaments, and the FIFA World Cup, where national teams compete. The sport emphasizes skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and tactical understanding, making it a highly strategic and physically demanding activity. Football is recognized for fostering teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship among players. In some regions, the term “football” may refer to different codes of the sport, such as American football or Australian rules football, but the definition above specifically pertains to association football, commonly referred to as soccer in countries like the United States and Canada.
